Curriculum
Our curriculum is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework. The EYFS is a government document that all early years settings in England must follow. It sets standards for the learning, development, and care of your child from birth to 5 years old. The standards ensure your child will learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe.
What will my child learn?
There are three prime areas of learning, which are particularly important for your child’s development and future learning; Communication and language; Personal, social, and emotional development; Physical Development.
There are four specific areas of learning, through which the prime areas are then applied:
Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding the World
Expressive art and design
How will my child learn?
The EYFS framework identifies three characteristics of effective teaching and learning:
Playing and exploring
Active learning
Creating and thinking critically
A greater focus on teaching specific skills will occur as your child progresses through their reception year once at school preparing them for year one.
How will I know how my child is
getting on?
We assess how your child is learning and developing by observing them frequently. We use information gathered from these observations, as well as from photographs or videos of the children, to document their progress and where this may be leading them.
We believe that parents know their children best and we ask them to contribute to our assessment by sharing information about what their children like to do at home and how they, as parents, are supporting development.
Each child has a key person who will work in partnership with you, sharing information about your child. This information will be shared in the format of online observations through Tapestry.
Each child will have a minimum of one observation per week added to Tapestry.
These observations will then be used to plan the next steps for your child and is shared with parents through a termly parents meeting.
